ConAgra Settles Hundreds of Peanut Butter Salmonella Cases
A Texas law firm announced today that they have negotiated confidential settlements for 752 individuals across the US who became ill after consuming Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butter manufactured by ConAgra Foods, Inc.
Tyson Foods Settles 7 Year Class Action
Food banks across Illinois will benefit from the recently announced settlement of the Tyco Foods class action, as they will receive about 1.7 million pounds of chicken as a result of unclaimed settlement funds.
The suit, filed 7 years ago, alleged that Tyson Foods had artificially inflated the weight of poultry products sold to consumers between 1997 and 2003 through a cold-water immersion chilling process.
As part of the settlement, Tyson agreed it would donate the remainder of the unclaimed funds in the form of poultry products to the state's food banks. The retail value of the donation s about $2.3 million.
Listeriosis Class Action Settled for $27 Million
A $27 million settlement has been reached between Maple Leaf Foods of Canada, and the plaintiffs in a class action suit.
The suit, brought against the food producer in 2008, stemmed from a nationwide listeria outbreak which killed at least 20 people. In each of the cases where someone died, their estate will receive $120,000 and the immediate family members will receive 'substantial amounts.'
Other claimants may be eligible for up to $125,000 each, depending on how severely their health was affected.
Anyone who consumed Maple Leaf meat products between January 1 and August 31, 2008 is eligible to make a claim.
Airborne Settles False Claims Allegations for $7 Million
Further to allegations of false advertising, the makers of Airborne dietary supplements have agreed to pay $7 million as settlement to 32 states to close the case.
The suit hinged on alleged false claims Airborne made regarding the benefits of its fruit-flavored dietary products.
In addition to the payment, Airborne has agreed to stop making claims regarding the efficacy, safety, health benefits, or performance of its products with respect to cold prevention.
